On October 27, 1861, Gardner Symons (n George Gardner Simons) was born in Chicago, IL. He began his training at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he befriended fellow student William Wendt (1865-1946). He furthered his education in Munich, Paris and London before working as a commercial artist in Chicago. In 1896, he built a studio near Laguna Beach, CA. He also held studios in New York City and in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. He died on January 12, 1930.
