JOHN HUBBARD RICH

(1876-1954)

PAINTER & ILLUSTRATOR

John Hubbard Rich was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 5, 1876. He attended the Art Students League in New York for four years, followed by three years of study at the School of the Boston Museum. While studying in Boston, he was awarded the Paige two-year traveling scholarship in Europe. Upon returning from Europe, he taught art at the Groton School. In 1914, he and artist William Cahill moved to Los Angeles and established the School for Illustrating and Painting. In Los Angeles, he taught at the University of Southern California and Otis Institute. The artist died in Los Angeles on March 30, 1954.
