Ludmilla Pilat Welch

(1867-1925)

Ludmilla Welch was born in Ossining, NY on April 1,1867. Raised near the culturally rich Hudson River area of New York, she was introduced to art, music and literature at a young age. When she was 16, she married artist Thaddeus Welch and moved between New York and Boston. In 1893, the Welch’s relocated to California. After several years spent in Pasadena and then Marin County, the coupled eventually settled in Santa Barbara. Ludmilla Welch died on May 17, 1925 at the age of 58.
