Press Release

OPENING RECEPTION: 1st THURSDAY, APRIL 7  |  FROM 5-8pm

Sullivan Goss is excited to announce the fourth solo exhibition for artist Phoebe Brunner. It is seemingly always a fine day in Brunner’s world where mythical vistas are brought to life with migrating clouds and undulating grasses. She imagines unpeopled places to escape to, places to wander from hilltop to seashore and all the canyons in between. Rain shows up quite often in this new body of work, not as a gentle misting of the skies, but as contained cloudbursts drenching the thirsty land below in a deluge of dramatic proportions.

This new body of work continues Brunner’s exploration into weather patterns and a shifting climate, as well as showing off the delightful magic of wild floral elements that, while dominating the foreground, offer a peek at the landscape behind them. As always, Brunner’s application of paint is generous and juicy, applied with a lively hand that adds to the rhythm and movement of each piece.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Phoebe earned a BFA from UCSB, but she also trained at Otis Art Institute, Chouinard, and the University of Guadalajara. Before being represented by Sullivan Goss, she was represented at the Ellen Easton Gallery in addition to numerous other galleries up and down the West Coast.
