SANTA BARBARA, CA - ROBIN GOWEN is back at Sullivan Goss with her thirteenth solo show. Robin is the first living artist that the gallery began representing over 25 years ago and she continues to wow us with her kaleidoscopic use of color, magnificent vistas, and quiet moments of the natural world.
There are only two paintings in this new body of work that show any signs of human-kind. The majority are landscapes unfettered by buildings or people; wild places that she travels far to get to and others that are just around the corner from her house. There’s a peace and quiet to be found in Robin’s paintings, the only “sound” comes from the symphony of color she incorporates into hills, valleys, and skies. The result is a harmonious blend of sky and earth and shadow and light, orchestrated by the maestro herself.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Robin Gowen resides in Santa Barbara, but often goes farther afield to explore and document the landscapes of California and the central coast. As well as being a prolific painter, she is a published author and an exceptional baker and gardener. Her childhood in Nigeria and New Hampshire inspired her young mind to create in unique and beautiful ways, further buoyed by her education at Phillips Exeter Academy and then Wellesley University.
