ABOUT THE ARTISTS

KEN BORTOLAZZO

Ken trained under Julio Agostini, Kenneth Noland and acclaimed kinetic sculptor George Rickey.  Like George Rickey, a large part of Ken’s work is created at heroic scale for public and/or outdoor venues.  In the last few years, Ken has installed major works at Microsoft’s central campus in Redmond and at the Museum of Outdoor Art in Colorado.  Ken has created table top sculptures for most of his career, in part, to see an id ea through to completion in a matter of days instead of weeks.  Ken lives and works in Santa Barbara.  He is represented by the Gallery.

EDGAR EWING (1913-2006)

Edgar Ewing trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he later taught.  Over a fifty plus year career, Ewing also taught at the American Academy in Rome, the Carnegie Institute and, for several decades, at USC.  Working with Post-Cubist forms and deeply considered metaphors about mythology and life in Southern California, Ewing built a significant career that was recognized with over thirty solo exhibitions at museums and galleries.  The Gallery er of days instead of weeks.  Ken lives and works in Santa Barbara.  The gallery represents his Estate

SIDNEY GORDIN (1918-1996)

Sidney Gordin learned welding and mechanical drafting at Brooklyn Technical High School before he was accepted at the prestigious Cooper Union School. Part of the famous “Club” of Abstract Expressionist painters, Gordin began sculpting in 1949.  While maintaining an active exhibtion schedule with the nation’s most prestigious museums and one of New York’s best galleries, Gordin found time to teach at the New School for Social Research.  He later joined the famous ceramist Peter Voulkos to reform the UC Berkeley sculpture program, where he taught until retirement.  The Gallery represents his Estate.

JAMES HAGGERTY

James Haggerty took an early glaze class with noted California ceramist Vivika Heino that sparked sufficient interest for him to pursue further studies at the California School of Fine Arts, Otis Art Institute, and Cal State Long Beach.  Continuing and updating a tradition passed from Gertrude and Otto Natzler and Beatrice Wood, Haggerty has proven himself one of our most promising glaze chemists.  James lives and works in Santa Barbara.  The gallery regularly presents his work.

JOAN ROSENBERG-DENT

Joan Rosenberg-Dent studied at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor before going on to get her MFA at the Cranbrook Academy, where she studied under Jun Kaneko.  Subsequently, she taught at the University of Michigan, Ohio University and Penn State.  She has exhibited across the country for the past twenty-five years and has been written up and otherwise honored again and again.  Joan lives and works in Santa Barbara.  This is her first exhibition with the Gallery.
